STATE QUALIFYING Last week Spur track and field athletes competed at the regional track meet at South Plains College in Levelland. The following honors were awarded: Kaygan Walker finished 1st in the 200m and advanced to State. The girls 4x200 relay team of Kaygan Walker, Saegan Molina, Kimberlee Segura and KendalWalker finished 3rd (and are waiting to see if they are selected for the wild card). In an annual ceremony preceded by a hamburger dinner for families and community members May 5, the Spur Masonic Lodge #1033 presented college scholarships to two Spur High School seniors.
REGIONAL UIL HONORS Jayton High School was the overall regional Speech team champion at last week’s regional UIL academic meet. Honors went to Dayton Bleiker, 1st place in Persuasive Speaking and a State qualifier; Cooper Spray, 2nd place and a State qualifier; Lexi Long, 5th place in Informative Speaking and Colt Gentry, 2nd place and a State qualifier; and Kyndrey Branum, 5th place. Jaybirds to face off with May

SUE JANE SULLIVAN | TEXAS SPUR  The bi-district baseball series between the Jayton Jaybirds and May Tigers will begin Thursday, April 30. The best-of-three matchup between the District 7 and District 8 teams will be played in Clyde at the Hanner Sports Complex. Game one begins at 4:30 p.m.

The Jayton Lady Jays will be hanging up their cleats, gloves and bats— but not before they made the 2026 softball season one for the books. Jayton dropped the best-of-three bi-district series to Cross Plains, losing 17-0 in the first game and 16-0 in game two on April 24.

Tuesday Scramble Recap, April 21: Twenty-eight players showed up ready to play some golf, and seven teams were formed with the following results: 1st place went to the team of Thomas Darr, Steve Edmonds, Cliff Miller and Daniel Perez with a score of 30 (6 under).
