Jayton XC places first versus 1A schools at LCU meet Saturday

The Jayton junior high and high school cross country runners competed in the Lubbock Christian University cross country meet Saturday morning. The Jaybirds and Lady Jays competed in the 1A-4A division. The junior high Lady Jays finished in 7th place overall and 2nd place against 1A schools.

Jaybirds soar past Paducah, 64–42, behind balanced offensive attack

The No. 5 Jayton Jaybirds moved to 3-0 on the season, defeating the No. 6 Paducah Dragons 64-42 in a high-scoring battle. Jayton’s offense proved difficult to slow down, piling up 422 total yards.

Tuesday Scramble Recap, September 8. We had 14 players brave the heat and come out for a fun day of golf! Four teams were formed, and we had some great scores. Here are the results: 1st place went to the team of Gene Solis, Bobby Condron and Jimmy Ashley with a score of 30 (6 under par).

Spur Bulldogs travel to Guthrie for week 3 football

Friday night, the Spur Bulldogs hit the road to Guthrie for the 2026 Week Three showdown. Spur was in hopes to upset Guthrie’s Homecoming night. The Bulldogs gave all they had when stepping onto the field for the physical six-man football matchup but came up short.

In spring 2025, Patton Springs High School was discontinued by vote of the school board; grades K–6 are continuing, while students in upper grades were able to choose among other schools to attend.Area schools welcomed their first Patton transfers in August 2025.

Jaybirds roll to 32nd straight win, blank Ira 46-0

The Jayton Jaybirds continued their remarkable run this week, rolling past Ira 46-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season and extend their winning streak to 32 consecutive games. The Jaybirds’ last loss came in the 2023 state quarterfinals.

Paisley Smith selected 4-H ambassador

Dickens County 4-H member Paisley Smith has been selected to serve as a Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador. The Texas 4-H Equine Ambassador Program was established in 2012 in response to the need for a new generation of knowledgeable, articulate advocates for the equine industry in Texas.
