Last week Spur competed at the District UIL Academic meet and advanced seven to the Regional event, all regional qualifiers. Kylie Weiser took 2nd place in Copy Editing; Leah Muñoz placed 3rd in Ready Writing and 5th Literary Criticism; Joshua Ortiz placed 3rd in Informative Speaking and 4th in Current Events and Issues; and Margarito Pesina placed 3rd in Computer Applications.
The first Tuesday scramble of the season teed off on April 2. The team of Jason Tanner, Justin Posey and Ron Young won 1st on a draw. Andrew Bateman won closest to the pin on #8 with his drive landing 3 feet and 4 inches from the hole. Way to go, Andrew!
Dickens County 4-H members traveled to Texas Tech University in Lubbock on Thursday to participate in the District 3 4-H Meat Judging Competition. The Junior Team of Calvin Hays Chapman, Rylee Foster and Henry Champion won Grand Champion Team. They scored 86 points better than the 2nd place team.
