Dogs maul Bears 30 years later

Thirty years ago, Spur Superintendent Craig Hamilton stepped onto the field with his fellow Bulldogs to take on the Baird Bears in the 1989 playoffs. The Bulldogs triumphed with a hard-fought victory of 7-3.

Jaybirds tame Mustangs

The Jayton Jaybirds hosted the Wilson Mustangs in their fourth straight home game of the season last weekend. The injury bug continues to hamper the Jaybirds, as seniors Tye Scogin and Aaron Hernandez were forced to sit out for the second straight week.

Lake Alan Henry FAIR. Water clear 81–85 degrees; 3.62' low. Largemouth bass are good to excellent on topwater in the morning, worms, spinners and crankbait. Crappie are slow on jigs or with live bait. Catfish are fair on live bait and with trot lines.

Zarate finishes 4th out of hundreds at Plainview; Spur XC gears up for Silver Spur Meet Sept. 28

The Spur cross country teams competed against hundreds of runners at the Plainview Invitational Meet Saturday. Jorden Zarate finished 4th at the meet with a new personal record time of 16:29.

While summer flowers are still colorful and perky, dry some for bouquets for those drab days of winter. It is an easy activity. Collection: • Harvest dry blossoms early in the day when the morning dew has dried. • Collect an assortment for drying.

Bulldogs ‘decape’ the Matadors

Sixmanfootball.com predicted that Motley County would beat the Spur Bulldogs in Friday’s night game by 21 points. After all, the Bulldogs were “only” rated #20 in the state in Division 2 six-man, and the Matadors were sitting at #3 in the state in Division 1 six-man. They were wrong.

For the past four weeks, Dave Campbell's Texas Football has ranked the Jayton Jaybirds the number one team in the state in six-man, division 2.
