Spur Chess Camp honors tournament winners

The Spur Chess Camp held a four-round Swiss-style tournament on Wednesday. Three students ended the tournament with three out of four possible points.

UPMA awards scholarship to Tanner

Avery Tanner, a 2019 graduate of Spur High School, has been named the winner of the $1,000 Texas United Postmasters and Managers of America scholarship. Tanner is the daughter of Jason and Amy Tanner of Spur. Her grandparents are Lee and Tommy Lyles of Spur and Kenny and Debbie Tanner of Rule.

10-county 4-H camp to be held July 16 in Roaring Springs

The Roaring Springs Ranch Club will once again host the 10-county 4-H camp at the Roaring Springs Ranch Club in Roaring Springs on July 16, 2019. Registration starts at 10 a.m., and the camp costs $250. Activities go until 8 p.m., and the registration fee includes lunch.

Jayton picked to win district, Spur second by DCTF

Jayton was picked to win District 7-1A Division II, according to the 2019 edition of “Dave Campbell’s Texas Football,” which was published last week. Rounding out the 7-1A district predictions were Lueders-Avoca, Rule, Guthrie and Paint Creek in that order.

Young people can learn a skill that will yield lifelong entertainment at chess camp at Spur ISD July 8 through July 10, 2019. Monday, July 8 through Wednesday, July 10 camp classes will be held from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. for 1st grade and up.
