It was a near perfect evening for Golf Scramble Tuesday, June 28, with temperatures in in the 80s! There was only a slight breeze blowing. Five teams were formed, and two places were paid out.
Last week, news anchor Karin McCay lunched with patrons of the Spur Senior Citizens Center, in preparation for the Lubbock TV station’s vist to Spur as part of its 2022 Live Community Coverage Tour, July 26. McCay and Wilbanks also visited the Texas Spur offices last Thursday.
The first annual Golf’in with Nanna Debbie tournament was held at the course on June 25th and 26th. Nine three-person teams came out to scramble. This tournament was held to support the Debbie Daughtry Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is awarded by the Spur Ex-Students’ Association each year.
Tristen Martin, a 2022 graduate of Spur High School, spent a week in Washington, D.C., thanks to South Plains Electric Cooperative. Through the Government-in-Action Youth Tour, an annual program sponsored by electric cooperatives nationwide, Martin joined about 100 fellow Texans for this trip June 12–21, 2022.
ALL STARS Nick Ortiz (#6 red, left) and Austin Fulmer (#6 blue, right) were joined by Coach Tate Clark at the Brazos Bowl All Star Game Saturday in Strawn. Both players graduated from Spur last month.
PATTON FFA Diezel Ramirez and Melania Ramirez were two of the Patton Springs School students participating in last week’s week annual area leadership conference for the Future Farmers of America.
LAKE ALAN HENRY Mason Connor caught a 9.67 pound bass this past weekend at the West Texas Bass Association Working Man’s Derby at Lake Alan Henry, southwest of Spur.
