Spur JV defeats Hermleigh in first outing of season

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Spur junior varsity Bulldogs traveled to Hermleigh to play the first game of their season. Spur fans and athletes alike are excited to have enough players to field a JV team this season. The Bulldogs played four full quarters against the Hermleigh Cardinals.

New faculty and staff begin 2024-25 school year at Jayton-Girard ISD

Jayton-Girard ISD superintendent Scott Bicknell said this week that the 202425 year is off to a great start, welcoming four new faculty and staff members. Lauren Huff, the new band director, came from a similar post at Ralls ISD. Huff is “a great addition” to the teaching staff, Bicknell said.

CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY, PLANNED OPENING SUMMER ’25 In 2018 the City of Paducah discovered that its municipal pool had a huge water leak underneath, and staff suspected there might be voids near the drain. The cost to fix the pool was going to be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This week, Jayton plays host to the Gridiron Classic, one of the premiere showcases of six-man football, to kick off the new season. Games run Thursday through Saturday at Jaybird Stadium. LESLI RUSH CLARK it was most definitely a scorcher at 102 degrees for the weekly Tuesday night scramble. We were blessed to have 32 scramblers show up to participate and join in on the fun!

Stephen Reynolds of Jayton, Texas, was presented with the Chuck McAllister Umpire Award during the 2024 Junior League Baseball World Series in Taylor, Michigan, earlier this month.
