FFA EXCELLENCE Patton Springs FFA competed in the FFA Leadership Development district competition last week and earned the following honors in a variety of events: 2nd place in Greenhand Chapter Conducting; 3rd place in Job Interview; 3rd place in Senior Skills; 3rd place in Junior Skills; 4th place in Junior Quiz; 7th place in Quiz; 9th place in Senior Quiz; and 10th place in Radio Broadcasting.
FIRST EVER ON END ZONE The Spur Bulldogs were on KCBD-TV's End Zone show this past Sunday night. The show features the high school football team of the week, and it was the first time ever for Spur to earn that honor.
STATE BOUND The Jayton High School UIL Congressional Team, under the sponsorship of coach Hillary Bleiker, secured four of the top five spots. Alana Croft, who took 1st place, and Joel Williams, who took 3rd place, are headed to State competition. Jarret Herzog, in 4th Place, and Jayme Braly, in 5th Place, are State alternates.
LADY JAYS BEGIN SEASON The Lady Jays girls varsity basketball team started their season with a victory over Roby November 9 with a 45–28 win. This week they were to face Hawley on Tuesday and Klondike on Friday. Both are away games.
11TH QUARTERFINALS In last Thursday’s Class 1A DII bi-district matchup between Jayton and Benjamin, the Jaybirds prevailed 52–41 at Greyhound Field in Knox City, earning a regional quarterfinals bid. This Friday’s game, Nov. 19, will be versus the Loraine Bulldogs in Trent at 7 p.m. Friday night’s playoff marks the Jaybirds’ 11th trip to the quarterfinals.
BIG BULLDOG WEEK The Spur Bulldogs defeated Meadow 63–14 to win the bi-district crown Friday night in Hermleigh. On Sunday, the Bulldogs were the featured team on the End Zone on KCBD-TV-Channel 11/Lubbock for the first time in the show’s history. In the 1930 Spur 11-man football team season, the Bulldogs set the all-time Texas state record with the most points ever scored in a high school football game when they demolished the Lorenzo Hornets on Nov. 7, 1930, 186 to 0.
