Alice Cantu Garcia, 1958–2020

LUBBOCK—Alice Cantu Garcia died peacefully in Lubbock, Texas, on September 29, 2020, at the age of 83.

Alice was born on December 14, 1936, in Donna, Texas, to Samuel and Hermenia Cantu. Alice married Margarito “Joe” Garcia on November 29, 1958. Alice, alongside her husband, Joe, spent their life farming, ranching and raising their children. The couple welcomed nine children into their home and set about teaching them about faith and love. Her children remember her as a kind and loving mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

Alice was dedicated to her husband and children, who loved spending time at her ranch with her family and who was passionate about her faith. Alice was an active and dedicated member of the Saint Mary’s Catholic and Guadalupana organization.

Alice is survived by her children Daniel Garcia and spouse, Stella, of Spur; Caroline Lara and Eddie Ramirez of Lubbock, Patrick Garcia and spouse, Elizabeth, of Lubbock; Elia and spouse, Ramon Gamboa, of Lubbock; Andy Garcia of Lubbock; Eddie Garcia and spouse, Amy, of Idalou; Nancy and spouse, Philip Driver, of Flower Mound; Christopher Garcia and Ashley Clark of Lubbock; her siblings Lillie Sifuentes of Olton, Sally Garcia of Ralls and Minnie Cantu of Bryan; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Margarito “Joe” Garcia; her son Danny Ray Garcia; and her parents and four brothers.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday October 2, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spur, Texas, with interment following at Spur Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
