Beverly Lee Johnson Brooks, 1955–2021

Beverly Lee (Johnson) Brooks entered the presence of God on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Her tremendous faith in God gave her peace throughout her struggles. She always considered others first, showing kindness and love in so many thoughtful ways.

Beverly was born March 18, 1955 to Lewis David and Dottie Lee (Willis) Johnson in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Spur High School in 1974, West Texas State, Canyon, in 1976, and South Plains College in 1985. Beverly began her career with Covenant in November 1976 and was a dedicated employee until her death. In January 2021, she was named HIM Director for Texas/ New Mexico. Beverly was a charter member of LakeRidge Baptist Church and was a devoted teacher for the children’s ministry, teaching in Sunday School and the Wednesday night program. She was passionate about teaching God’s Word and His unconditional love to all of her kids. Beverly married the love of her life, Nathan Dale Brooks, in Lubbock, Texas, on April 8, 2006. They enjoyed traveling and experiencing the great outdoors.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and her son Christopher Ryen Houk. She is survived by her husband Nathan; son Jacky Kyle Houk; daughter Kimberlee Renee (Houk) Gourley; daughter Heather Michelle (Brooks) Gillihan and husband Brad; daughter Hollie Lanette (Brooks) Rhodes and husband Justin; daughter Harmony Anne (Brooks) Sullivan and husband Cody; grandchildren Chloe Marie Gillihan, Damien Kyle Houk, Jaxon James Waymore Jennings, Maddox Jack Houk, Korben Lee Jennings, Kallie Rae Sullivan, Audrey Layne Rhodes, Rylee Anne Sullivan, and Gunner Axe Rhodes; brother Lewis David Johnson Jr. and wife Judy; sister Deborah Kaye (Johnson) De La Rosa and husband John; sister Dianne (Johnson) Griffin; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at LakeRidge Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Reynolds and Pastor John Murdoch officiating. The graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Girard Cemetery (between Spur and Jayton). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LakeRidge Baptist Church missions fund.
