Effie Lee Freeman Ussery

passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, in Jayton. Effie was born May 30, 1936, in Aspermont to Clarence and Grace Freeman. She married Andy Ussery on Dec. 2, 1955, in Lovington, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1997. Andy and Effie lived in Jayton for many decades operating the family construction and plumbing business. Over the years, Effie also owned the Jayton Café, served as the director of the Kent County Senior Citizens, operated a popular bakery and was a driver for Kent County Rural Transportation.

Effie is survived by a son, Jack Ussery, of Jayton; a daughter, Grace Ussery, of Hochheim am Main, Germany; four grandsons, Wayne Ussery, Wesley Ussery, Levi Ussery and Matthew Ussery; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Jennings; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

We wish to extend our gratitude to the staff of the Kent County Nursing Home who provided wonderful care and attention to Mama the past four years.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a future date. Memorials can be made to the Kent County Nursing Home or a charity of one’s choice.
