Elmyra Louise Atkinson Greenwood, 1932–2022

LUBBOCK—Elmyra Louise Atkinson Greenwood, 89 of Dickens, Texas, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas.

Elmyra was born on November, 21, 1932 to Claude and Minnie Atkinson in Motely County. She attended schools in Dickens County and married Charles Gibson in 1948. She was a member of Dickens Baptist Church and worked in the restaurant business all her life, owning several restaurants in the area. She was called “the best cook in Dickens County.” She retired in 1995. Later in life she married W.J. (Bill) Greenwood.

She is survived by daughter Ruby Combs, of Dickens, Texas; grandchildren David Gibson, Polly Daza, Bron Combs, Michael Gibson, Brian Combs, Richard Gibson, Randall Gibson and Crystal Gibson; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister.

She was preceded in death by husband Bill Greenwood, son Palmer Wayne Gibson, three sisters and five brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Dickens Senior Citizens at P.O. Box 163 Dickens, TX 79229.

Services were held 10:30 am Thursday March 31, 2022 at the Nazarene Church in Dickens, Texas, followed by interment at the Dickens Cemetery with Roy Chisum officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
