Jeff Alan Dawson died peacefully in his sleep March 27, 2023, at his home in Dickens, Texas, at the age of 64.

Jeff was born on December 18, 1958 in Amarillo, Texas, to Mickey and Virginia Dawson. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1977. He married Suanna Lynn “Sue” Barnes on March 11, 2005. He was a cowboy and worked for various ranches for years. He also owned and operated Tip's Liquor Store in Dickens since 2006. In addition to that he, along with Sue, bred and raised horses. That “hobby” turned into a full-fledged business that entailed breeding, selling and sale fitting horses for themselves as well as the public. He never had any children of his own but adored all of his nieces and nephews as well all of his buddy’s children. In May of 2020, he and Sue were awarded permanent custody of Sue’s great-granddaughter, Stetson, who became the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Dickens, Stetson, his “little girl”; three step-granddaughters; a sister, Micki Norwood, of Lubbock; and a brother, Dan “Butch” Dawson and wife, Ellen, of Water Valley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Dawson.

Jeff loved to attend horse shows and sales. He was also a great cook and always watched the cooking channel.

A memorial service is scheduled for April 23 at 2 p.m. at the Dickens Senior Citizens center at 511 Montgomery Street, Dickens, Texas.

His ashes will be spread on the ranch.
