On May 23, 2023, the world lost a funny, witty, smart, and dedicated man, Mark Allen Patterson. Born on September 15, 1949, in Crosbyton, Texas, Mark lived a life filled with laughter, love and adventure. He spent his days working as a utility contractor in the commercial utilities industry. He married his loving wife, Jan, on November 13, 1993, and they built a successful business, Deerwood Construction. Together, they created a beautiful life, residing in Spur, Texas, where Mark’s passion for his ranch, antique cars, and feeding wildlife flourished. When not at home, Mark loved traveling—especially cruising with Jan and his sister Phillis—and giving back to his Lubbock community through involvement with Women’s Protective Services, Meals on Wheels, the South Plains Food Bank, and the National Ranching Heritage Center.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jan Patterson; his daughters, Tammy (Richard) Fitzpatrick, Tracy (Richard) Norris, Sandy (Branden) Proffitt, and Tammie Goldston; his brother, Rusty (Gwen) Patterson; his sister, Phillis (Michael) Orrick; and his grandchildren, Dustin Davis, Brittany Marshall, Colton Hodges, Presleigh Duncan, and Payton Norris. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Luradean Patterson.

Mark's life was celebrated at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 2 p.m. CDT at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. We encourage everyone to share their memories and upload photos of Mark to his memorial page at www.memorialdesigners.net, as we remember the joy and laughter he brought to all who knew him. A broadcast of his service is also available for those who were not able to attend on his memorial page.

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Lubbock Meal on Wheels or the South Plains Food Bank.
