Olga Smith, 1957–2020

Olga Smith, 63, of Spur, Texas, entered Heaven’s gates on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. She was born May 4, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, to Luis Jr. and Felice Martinez Leyva.

Olga worked as a correctional officer for over 20 years at TDC and in Spur. Her family was her biggest passion. Olga always kept herself busy doing what she loved: fishing, deer hunting, and watching the Dallas Cowboys or old Westerns. Olga was a great person and will be missed dearly by her loved ones.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Luis Leyva IV and wife, Kelley, of Fort Worth; Felix Barrera of Lubbock; her daughters, Jennifer Rose Barrera of Spur, Rebecca Barrera and Nicholas Garcia of Shallowater; her brother, Ruben Leyva and wife, Esmeralda, of Lubbock; her sisters, Mary Silva of Crosbyton, Yolanda Wilson and husband Clifford of Abilene; and 10 grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Alvin Smith; her parents; two brothers, David Leyva and Louis Leyva III; and one grandchild.

Funeral Mass was held on Friday, August 14, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spur, Texas, with burial following in Spur Cemetery.
