Peggy L. Gibson, 1935–2021

LUBBOCK—Peggy L. Gibson, 85, of Lubbock passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2, 1935, in Spur, Texas, where she was raised, and graduated from Spur High School in 1953. She married Richard “Dick” Anderson Gibson, Jr. on September 7, 1953, in Spur, and they moved to Lubbock in 1955.

She had worked at Hemphill-Wells Department Store and had been an office manager for Dr. Ullom, Dr. Neal, and Dr. Potocki. She was very organized and detailed and had a dry sense of humor. She enjoyed quilting and handwork, playing bridge, cards, and board games, working in the yard, cooking, and playing games with her Senior Adult Group. She was a faithful member of Southcrest Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Adult Class and Choir. She loved working in the nursery with the newborns. She enjoyed going on trips with her sisters, and she will be remembered for loving her family and being so kind and giving.

Peggy is survived by her daughter, J. D’Ann Toland of Lubbock; three siblings, Anita Littlefield and husband, R.C., of Lubbock, Sandra Haws of Arlington, and Becky Melton and husband, Buddy, of Lubbock; and five grandsons, Joel, Blayne, Anderson, Shug and Reid. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2002; her son, Richey Gibson, in 1998; her parents; and three siblings, Doris, John and Betty Jo.

Due to Covid restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required at funeral services. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28, at Combest Family Funeral Homes in Lubbock. Celebration of life services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
