Jimmie Lee Sims, 1940–2026

Jimmie Lee Sims of Jayton, Texas, passed away on June 13, 2026, after a short illness.

Jimmie was born November 19, 1940 in Stamford, Texas, the son of Carl Sims and Louise Powell Sims. He grew up on a farm in the Sagerton community, and attended Sagerton Grade School and Rule High School. He worked and lived in several West Texas towns and also in Artesia, New Mexico. After moving back to Stamford he worked for many years in the Stamford Independent School District until he retired. After he retired from the school district he worked part time at the Teakwood Nursing Home in Stamford, where he was known for his dedication, kindness, and friendly spirit.

Jimmie was married to Doris Kidd, and together they enjoyed spending time with friends at the Senior Center, where they often played dominoes and they attended all of the senior dances in the area. Jimmie also enjoyed watching old westerns and cheering on his favorite football teams.

Jimmie was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church and valued his faith and fellowship of his church family. He served as an interim lay preacher on several occasions.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Doris. He is survived by one daughter, Deborah, and one grandson and two granddaughters. He is also survived by one brother, Wilmer, and his wife, Maizie; and one sister-in-law, Geraldine Grice; as well as his nursing home family. He also is survived by two nephews, Charles Sims of The Woodlands, Texas, and Christopher Sims of Plano, Texas.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Kent County Nursing Home for the love, kindness and compassionate care they provided to Jimmie. Their dedication, support, and friendship brought comfort to him and to the family, and their kindness will always be remembered with sincere appreciation. A memorial service will be at Temple Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas, on Saturday July 25, 2026 at 11 a.m.
