Laura Marie Shaw, 88, of Slaton, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Englunds Chapel, followed by visitation, 6–7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Slaton Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Texas. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Marie was born on July 25, 1937 in Rexford, KS, the sixth child of W.V. and Dora (Gilbert) Talbott. When Marie was 4, the family moved to Raton, NM, where Marie went to school through the 9th grade. The family moved to Abernathy, TX, where she finished school.
She married Harold Dean Shaw on April 4, 1954. They had three children and lived many places until they bought a place in Dickens County, TX, in 1965. Marie started to work for the U.S. Postal Service in 1970 at Spur and was named postmaster in 1980. In 1985, she was named postmaster at Slaton; she retired in 1998.
Dean and Marie traveled for the next two years, when she decided to work again and worked for Cingular Wireless for the next five years, retiring again in 2005.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers; two sisters; and her grandson, Danny Baxter.
Marie is survived by her children, Clifton Dean (Suzanne), Cary Wayne (Mary) and Deanna Creager (Jeff); nine grandkids; and many great-grandkids.
The family suggest memorials be sent to the Slaton Senior Citizens Center, the Slaton Methodist Church, or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch.
