Robert Dois Kendrick, Sr., 1954–2026

Robert Dois Kendrick Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. Born in Spur, Texas, Sept. 19, 1954, to Robert Jereal Kendrick and Betty June (Barber) Kendrick, Robert lived life with humor, heart and a fierce sense of independence.

Robert spent 26 years as a lineman for Dickens Electric Cooperative, a job that suited his hardworking nature and love of community. When he wasn’t keeping the lights on, he could be found riding his Harley Davidson, tending his cows, playing dominoes, or sneaking a scoop of his favorite Blue Bell ice cream. Known as a playful prankster, Robert loved to make people laugh and often kept everyone on their toes.

Through a 20-year battle with cancer, Robert showed remarkable courage and quiet strength, never letting his illness define him. He faced life on his own terms, with grit, grace and a wink of mischief.

Robert married Evalena (Elliott) Kendrick on November 23, 1977. Together they shared 48 years filled with love, laughter, and family adventures. He is survived by their four children— Robert Jr., Daniel, Eli, and Nicole Kendrick— and ten beloved grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Spur Area Food Bank or Spur Senior Citizens in honor of Robert’s generous spirit.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026 at Zapata Funeral Home Chapel, followed by interment at the Spur Memorial Cemetery.
