Longs' suit against JGISD dismissed by U.S. Northern District civil court

In a March 28 ruling, the U.S. Northern District of Texas civil court dismissed the amended case of plaintiff Clint Long, individually and as Next Friend of C.L., against Jayton-Girard Independent School District alleging violations of the Texas Open Meetings Act (TOMA) and student C.L.

New books, new readers at the Spur library

The library received a memorial donation in honor of Paula Dean Forman Crausbay, a 1959 graduate of Spur High School and the sister of retired library director Merla Watson. Our deepest sympathies go out to Merla and her family.

Soffritto: so good, and so good for you

Soffritto is a combination of onion, carrot, and celery. In Italy, soffritto is finely diced, uniformly. But it is very similar to the French version, called mirepoix, which is often diced a bit larger. The threesome is also referred to as the holy trinity by some.

Patton advances 6 to regional in UIL academic competition

Patton Springs advanced six students to the regional UIL Academics competition in last week’s district UIL Academics contest at Jayton. Mathematics: 2nd place, Diezel Ramirez (Regional Qualifier); 3rd place, Kinley Chandler; 4th place, Kyle Schledwitz; 5th place, Melania Ramirez.

Wildfire risk remains high in much of state

AUSTIN—Much of the state remains at considerable risk for wildfires through this week, largely because of higher-than-usual temperatures and drought conditions. More than 40% of the state is suffering extreme drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
