Cactus, Texas, has a population of 3,194, and for those of you who might say it’s in the middle of nowhere, well, it’s 13 miles north of Dumas in the northern Panhandle.
In its regularly scheduled meeting Aug. 18 at the Spur Community Center with some 15 members of the public present, the City of Spur unanimously passed a revised curfew ordinance, discussed adoption of the 2020–21 city budget, proposed a no-newrevenue tax rate, and approved pursuing a contract with UVMax to develop a city website.
In its regular meeting Aug. 24, 2020, the Kent County commissioners’ court approved the 2020 tax rate, 0.875600 per $100 of valuation, representing an increase from the previous year’s rate of 0.757296 but less than the 2020 no-new-revenue rate of 0.895600, as the county is not proposing to increase property taxes for 2020.
