Spur ISD board approves resignations, new hires

In the June regular monthly meeting of the Spur Independent School District board of trustees, Stephanie Martinez presented the school board with a certificate valued at $2,500 on behalf of the DKG Gamma ETA Society. Trustees also recognized all State FFA qualifiers.

Spur Senior Citizens

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., will be serving a noon meal Monday through Friday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472.

LIBRARY NOTES

Summer officially began June 21. It seems like the heat got turned on early this year! Hopefully August will feel like May since May felt like August. It’s cool at the library, so you should come see us. While here you can see what new books we’ve got lately.

Plants that can take the heat

Red yucca. An evergreen with tough, narrow, swordshaped, grey-green foliage that emerges from the crown in a rosette pattern. The common name ‘Red Yucca’ is misleading. While it is similar to the true, white yucca, it is not a yucca, but rather a Hesperaloe, Hesperaloe parviflora.

Arrest made in Spur assault

On June 26, the Dickens County sheriff’s office arrested Matthew Olivarez of Spur on charges of burglary of a habitation in West Harris Street with intent to commit assault, a first degree felony, pursuant to a warrant issued by the Spur Police Department, according to police chief Billy R. Spears.

SBDC to offer QuickBooks training in Spur July 7

The Northwest Texas Small Business Development program will be hosting an inperson seminar on the basics of QuickBooks at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall of Spur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 7, 2022.
