September is the month for jujubes

Jujubes ( Ziziphus jujuba) are a tree fruit known variously as jujube, red date, Chinese date, or Chinese apple. They are cultivated and highly sought after in China, and in other Asian and Indian cultures. The center of origin of jujube is the area of North Africa to Syria and then east to China.

Pumped up for pumpkins

You might know I get pumped up for pumpkins. I’m a pumpkin spice kind of girl, but I also like the fresh flavor of actual pumpkin. I like it savory or sweet. Pumpkin adds a mild flavor, and lots of moisture, to cornbread, and a smooth, autumn flavor to sauces and smoothies.

LIBRARY NOTES
