From the garden Summer months have taken a toll on many tomato plants. What is a gardener to do about tomatoes that have flowers but no fruit. But before we get to a solution, we need to look at the flowers that produce the fruit.

Mark your calendars and put big red, white and blue stars and stripes on it. Spur will be celebrating the 4th of July with an expanded holiday tradition, “Fourth on Burlington,” on Friday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

From the garden Water is precious in West Texas. Last week’s rains brought much needed relief to our long drought. If those raindrops could have been captured, gardeners would have a no-cost water source for their crops.

We would like to thank South Plains Electric for awarding the Operation Round Up Community grant to the library. With some of the funding from this grant we were able to bring a couple of very special programs to our Collaborative Summer Reading program.
