LUBBOCK— First United Bank recently held a series of ribbon-cutting ceremonies to celebrate the grand reopening of seven newly acquired banking center locations across West Texas.

The Spur Senior Citizens Center, located at 210 Burlington Ave., serves a noon meal Tuesday through Thursday. The dining room is open, or if you feel more comfortable, we offer a curbside lunch you can reserve by calling (806) 271-4472. A donation is always appreciated.

Temperatures are rising. These are the days, be it a worknight, or a lazy weekend spent in the garden, when all I crave is cool and refreshing fruit. Paired with a few staples, such as cheese and crackers, I can easily make this a light meal.

Drought tolerant tea gardens

From the garden Last week’s column highlighted the garden herbs peppermint, chamomile, lemon balm, and fennel. Teas made from herbs in today’s column are more unusual since they are drought tolerant plants often grown in xeric, low water-use, gardens. Echinacea ( Echinacea purpurea).
