Three area students earn degrees during WT’s first virtual commencement

STAFF REPORTS CANYON—Among the 1,198 graduates earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees at West Texas A&M University during its first virtual commencement ceremony on May 9, 2020, were three from Texas Spur Country.

Meet the Bulldogs, Meet the Jaybirds will be Friday night

STAFF REPORTS On Friday, Aug. 14, the Spur Bulldogs and the Spur Spurettes will be on hand at Jones Stadium at 6 p.m. to talk fall sports and enjoy some watermelon with family, friends and fans.

Spur Bulldogs and Spurettes started their weeks with workouts, getting ready for fall athletics. Midnight Madness with the varisty football team is slated for 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning, August 8.

STATE RUNNER-UP IN JAYTON State Runner-Up Motley County will play in the Gridiron Football Classic in Jayton on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Nancy Shaw 1937–2020

Nancy completed her journey home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2020, at age 82. She was born in Pasadena, California, on August 8, 1937, to Douglas and Ruth Zediker. She married for the first time at a very young age and had three children—two girls and a boy. Later she had another son.

Hot, dry conditions can cause prussic acid and nitrate poisoning

The hot and dry conditions we are currently experiencing in West Texas can cause toxic levels of prussic acid to occur in many annual forages. While many plants contain the toxic materials, the greatest culprits are Johnson grass, haygrazers or forage sorghums—sudan hybrids, and various millets.
