In their second game of district play, the Jayton Jaybirds wanted to have as many of their teammates involved in the game on the offensive side of the ball as possible.

Patton Springs XC sends qualifiers to regionals

In last week’s district cross country meet in Spur, Patton Springs qualified three individuals and the high school girls team for the regional meet in San Angelo on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019. In high school boys David Reyna finished 3rd, Jaxon White 5th and Devon Reyna 12th.

The varsity girls had a tight race with Guthrie for the district championship, but stepped up and won the district title led by Bucki Smith as the overall girls district champion.

Bulldogs play 4 quarters, Ira prevails

Ranked number two in Division I Six-Man in the state, Ira has never had to play four quarters this year until they faced Spur Friday night. In the battle of the Bulldogs in Ira, Ira (8-0, 1-0) actually trailed for the first time and had to play a full game for the first time this season.

With the fall weather finally settling in, Jayton Jaybird fans are looking forward to matchups that will influence playoff seedings. The Guthrie Jaguars challenged Jayton at home in their first district contest of the season.

4-H FORAY In livestock judging in Rising Star, the Dickens County 4-H team placed 6th with Mackenzie Gardner placing 5th overall, 5th in lamb and goats and 2nd in Swine, and Kimberlee Segura placing 10th in lambs and goats.

Jayton Girl Scout Lainey Baldridge earns top honor

Local Girl Scout Lainey Baldridge of Troop 7115 in Jayton was honored September 30 for her completion of the requirements for the Bronze Award, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve. Community service remains at the heart of Girl Scouting and was the focus for this special honor.

Time for area high school students to compete in Youth Tour to Washington, DC

High school juniors and seniors can compete in three local contests for a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., from June 12-21. Finalist students will interview with a panel of judges to convincingly explain why they should represent South Plains Electric Cooperative.
