Injury strikes Rangers during 2nd district game

The Silverton Owls and the Patton Springs Rangers met on the Rangers’ turf last Thursday night, Oct. 31, for what would be a big game. With both teams coming off a loss from their first week one of district play, these boys were ready to duke it out.

HERMLEIGH — The Spur Bulldogs (2-1) took another step toward the playoffs Friday night, defeating the Hermleigh Cardinals 58-6 (1-2). With the mercy rule, the game only lasted one half.

The Spur boys’ and girls’ cross country teams have qualified for the state cross country competition Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 in Austin at the regional competition in San Angelo on Monday. The boys won the regional championship and the girls finished third. Both qualified for state.

Ranked #13 and #12 in the state in Six Man Division 1 football, the Spur Bulldogs (1-1) hosted the Aspermont Hornets (2-1) in a district match-up at Jones Stadium. A lot was on the line with this game, including a chance to stay in the hunt for post-season play.

Jayton blanks the Bobcats, looks to district title game against Lueders-Avoca

In their last away district game of the season, the Jayton Jaybirds dominated the Rule Bobcats 53 to 0. With one more district game to play, the Jaybirds are undefeated and look to win the district title that alluded them last season.

The Patton Springs Rangers squared off against the Motley County Matadors last Thursday night for their first district game of the season. Both teams were accompanied by a lovely cold front that brought snow and ice that made for a numbing game.

JAYBIRDS ADVANCE TO REGIONAL MEET The varsity Jaybirds placed second at the Cross-Country District Meet, qualifying for the regional meet. In addition, the junior high Lady Jays won the district title.
