Jaybirds look forward to season opener

The Jayton Jaybirds hosted the Ira Bulldogs in their second scrimmage as a final tune-up to work out the kinks on both sides of the ball. Jayton showed great improvement from their first scrimmage, as the players are starting to feel as if they are in game shape.

FISHING REPORT

Lake Alan Henry Water clear main lake and 84 degrees; lightly stained up the river and 84 degrees; 2.95' low. Black bass are good to excellent on small Bone Whopper Ploppers and Torpedoes. Crappie are slow at night on minnows. Catfish are slow on baited jug lines.

Jaybirds host four-team scrimmage

The Jayton Jaybirds hosted Hermleigh, Newcastle and Knox City in a four-team scrimmage this past Friday night. Even though the score is not kept at scrimmages, and the outcome of the contest is irrelevant to overall records, each team was eager to showcase their abilities before the gathered crowd.

Lake Alan Henry Water clear main lake and 86 degrees; lightly stained up the river and 86 degrees; 2.71' low. Black bass are slow on drop shot rigged 4" Yum Dingers. Bass and crappie are fair at night on minnows. Catfish are fair on live perch and punch bait.

Texas 1A Fan comes to Spur for first scrimmage

Finally Friday! I know you all were probably thinking the same thing. Spur, Texas and Jones Stadium called my name. Boy, was it hot! I arrived at 6:00 p.m. and parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up into the stadium.

Meet the Bulldogs, Spurettes set for Aug. 16 at Jones Stadium

Petersburg, Valley and Crowell will be the three football teams that the Spur junior varsity and varsity squads will face in the first scrimmages of the year on Friday, Aug. 16. The junior varsity Bulldogs will play from 6 to 7 p.m. The varsity Bulldogs will play from 7 to 9 p.m.
