Druline Byrd Rape, 1930–1922

SPUR—Druline Byrd Rape, 91, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022. Services were held at First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas on Monday July 25, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Rory Mosley.

Druline was born in Afton, Texas, on August 29, 1930 to Drue and Ira Byrd. She graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1949 and went on to complete a degree at a business school in Lubbock. Druline married her high school sweetheart and love of her life on February 20, 1951. She and Nelson were married a total of 65 years. Together they raised three daughters and farmed the land, and she worked many years at the East Afton Gin as a bookkeeper. Once her daughters were raised, she served as the Dickens County treasurer for 19 years.

Druline flourished in every aspect of her life. She brought joy and love to her family and friends with a warm smile and a phenomenal meal. Happiness could always be found on a Saturday morning around her breakfast table spread with her famous biscuits, or on holidays when she had pies lining every available surface of the kitchen. She always kept the deck of cards and dominoes close to take on anyone who was up to the challenge. Her love for life wasn’t only reserved for people; Druline raised and nurtured every animal that found its way onto her land.

Druline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson Rape; daughter Lana McGee; and son Kerry Rape. She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Slough of Amarillo (husband Dewey Slough) and Angie Ward of Spur; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
