Memorial services for Elzie Kimmel were held at the First Baptist Church in Sawyer, Okla., on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Bob O’Neil officiating. Elzie went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2020, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 82.

Elzie Kimmel was born September 17, 1937, in Spur, Texas, to Bailey Kimmel and Gracie (Westfall) Kimmel. He had worked in the railroad industry all his life as a conductor. Elzie loved being outdoors, especially at his home in Sawyer. He lovingly acquired the nickname “Stumpy” after spending many hours grinding hundreds of stumps to make his home beautiful. He loved watching his horses, driving around his homeplace, playing cards and dominoes, hunting, and fishing. Elzie was a very loving man but was also easy going and was always joking around to put a smile on everyone’s face.

Elzie was preceded in death by his parents, Bailey and Gracie Kimmel; sisters Carrie Hawley, Jo Alice Moore, and Zina Atkinson; son Mike Kimmel; brother-in-law Kenneth Billings; and special nephew, Johnny Bob Atkinson.

Elzie is survived by his loving wife, Paula, of the home; son Jerry Kimmel, and wife, Bergit, of Alamogordo, N.M.; Kevin Kimmel and wife, Stephanie, of Missouri; Jay Bode and wife, Gretchen, of Sawyer, Okla.; and Tod Bode and wife, Paula, of Evant, Texas; daughter Cindy Thompson and husband, Richard, of Mexico; stepbrothers Billy Billings and wife, Park; William Billings and wife, Paula; Jerry Billings and wife Debbie; and Robert Billings and wife, Cindy; stepsister Carla Case; grandchildren Alaric, Chris, Alex, Dallas Cody, and Riley; great-grandchildren Haven and Cash; and special niece, Megan Perry, and her husband, Jacob.
