Joe R. Martinez, 1957–2021

Joe R. Martinez from Jayton, Texas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 4, 2021. He was born December 8, 1957 to Juanita and Anselmo Martinez.

Joe worked at Exxon/Mobil for over 30 years. He also worked in Iraq and Russia for Exxon/Mobil. When he retired there, he came home to work at Jayton-Girard ISD. Joe became mayor for Jayton in May of 2019 and served until his death.

Joe loved being with family, going to all sports to see his grandkids play, and he loved playing golf with his sons and all of his friends. He loved to make sure everyone had plenty to eat, so he loved to grill. Joe was a big part of his community and loved to help whenever possible.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Anselmo Martinez of Jayton; and one sister, Lydia Garcia of Jayton. He is survived by his loving

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; two sons, Michael Martinez of Jayton, Mark Martinez and his wife, Kim, of Allen, Texas; one daughter, Melissa Smith of Jayton; seven grandchildren, Jadah of Lubbock; Pecos, Harley, Knox and Harper of Jayton; Carter and Jane Martinez of Allen; brothers Elmo Martinez (Monica) of Jayton, Robert Martinez (Mary Helen) of Plainview, Ruben Martinez (Jackie) of Jayton and Max Martinez (Stephanie) of Amarillo; sisters Lupe Martinez of Alice, Texas, Sylvia Martinez of Jayton, Concha and Laurencio Sierra of Fort Worth, and Millie and Carlos Gonzalez of Dallas.

Joe will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.

A service for Joe was held Monday, March 8, 2021, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan. Burial was in the Jayton Cemetery.
