Kenneth Wayne Porter, 1920–2021

Kenneth Wayne Porter was born May 20, 1949 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Robert Lea and Annie Laurie Porter and passed from this earth on Monday, October 19, 2020. He was raised in West Texas and married Sylvia Jean Collins on October 23, 1970. Ken received his B.A. degree from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, the following May. Ken graduated from Patton Springs ISD in 1967. In 1974 he received a call to First Baptist Church of Rolla, Kansas, where he served for five years. Feeling the call to complete his seminary work, Ken accepted the call to First Baptist Church of Gardner, Kansas, in 1979. He graduated summa cum laude from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1988 and retired in 2014 after thirty-five years of ministry in Gardner.

Ken is survived by his wife, Sylvia; a daughter, Jessica, of Olathe, Kansas; three sons: Jason and wife Christelle of Gardner; Jonathan and wife Karis of Kansas City, Kansas; Joshua and wife Erin of Spring Hill, Kansas; and a brother, Stephen Bruce Porter of Afton, Texas. His parents and one brother, Mike, preceded him in death. Ken was blessed with four grandchildren: Chayton and Trinity of Gardner, and Milo and Remi of Spring Hill. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2021 at the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Texas.
