L.Z. “Sonny” Tilley, 1944–2020

L.Z. “Sonny” Tilley, 75, of Spur, Texas, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, in Clyde, Texas. Sonny was born on November 10, 1944, in San Angelo, Texas, to L.C. Tilley and Thelma Fay (Hale) Tilley.

Sonny worked and retired as a lineman with the power company. He then managed and lived on a ranch where he fulfilled his love for being a cowboy, and leading guided hunts. He loved his guns! Sonny was one of a kind and strong-willed. You never knew what he was going to say or who he would offend. You would definitely know what was on his mind! Sonny never left home without his shaved face, cowboy hat, boots and nice shirt on. He always made sure he looked his best.

“No More Worries.” Those left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Brad Tilley (Michelle) of Wichita Falls, Texas, Greg Tilley of Anson, Texas, and Chris Tilley (Ranie) of Tuscola, Texas; a sister, Jan Tilley Kunz; three brothers, Roy, John and Bruse; a son-in-law, Jerry Roberts; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Katina Roberts; and six siblings, Beverly, Vickie, Bobby, Ronnie, Donnie, Billie Ray and Jackie.

Graveside services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2020, at Espuela Cemetery in Spur.

Visitation was held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur.
