Sandra Jo Faulkner Taylor, 1941–2021

Sandra Jo Faulkner Taylor passed away in her home early on the morning of October 25, 2021 after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Dickens County, Texas, on May 28, 1941 to the late Thomas Edwin Faulkner and Myrtis Tennessee Teague Faulkner. She attended school in Spur and was a member of the Spur High School class of 1959. On August 29, 1959, she married “Clabber” Gene T. Taylor in Spur, and they were married almost 53 years at the time of his death in June of 2012.

Sandra Jo worked many different jobs and was never afraid to try something new. She worked with her dad driving a truck while in high school. Early in their marriage, she and Clabber managed one of the package stores in Dickens, Texas. They owned Taylor’s Grocery in Dickens in the 1970s and was featured in the Roy Rogers movie “Mackintosh and TJ.” She drove a tractor for different folks in her spare time, and she helped her father-inlaw on his farm when needed. Sandra Jo and Clabber both operated the Duck Creek Hunting Club on the Spur Headquarters Ranch. Later she worked for the Dickens County sheriff’s office, and then the Dickens County detention center. During the 1990s for a period of time the Taylors owned and operated Taylor’s Horns and Feathers restaurant in Dickens. She was a Germania Insurance agent for many years as well, retiring in March of 2020.

In their spare time, with the help of family and friends, they built themselves a new home on the family farm west of Dickens. She loved being able to repurpose stuff, paint, fix up things and make it useable. Her animals, her cooking, her crafts and her books were all her passions. She lived a full and eventful life. She loved reading about new things and she was knowledgeable about a wealth of many things.

Those left to mourn her include her oldest daughter, Mitzi Taylor-Joplin and husband Marty of Dickens, Texas; her youngest daughter, Rebel Taylor, also of Dickens; grandsons Taylor Thompson and wife Kasie and great-granddaughter Layla, and great-grandson Lincoln, all of San Angelo, Texas; and grandson Laythen Adams of Ponce de Leon, Florida, and granddaughter Shiloh Bradley, great-grandson Blake Morcom, great-granddaughter Faith Morcom, and great-grandson Bradley Zeleznikar, all of Lubbock, Texas. Sandra Jo was looking forward to the birth of her newest great-granddaughter, Karma Jo, who is scheduled to arrive in December.

The family will have a private family memorial at a later date.

The Taylor family requests memorial donations in Sandra Jo’s memory be made to the North Dickens County Senior Citizens or the Dickens Volunteer Fire Department.
