Velton Winona Rinehart, 1925–2023

Velton Winona Rinehart, 97, of Spur, Texas, passed away at home on Tuesday July 18, 2023. She was born on September 18, 1925, at home in Spur, Texas, to Donnie Lee and Georgia Ruth Pace. She graduated from Spur High School in 1942.

She worked at Spur Security Bank upon graduating, and on August 20, 1945, she married the love of her life, Loyd Isaac Rinehart Sr. in Spur, Texas. They would later move to Hobbs, New Mexico for work and raise a family. They had three children, daughters LaDonna and Lorita and one son, Loyd Jr. Winona worked 26 years as a bookkeeper administrator for La Siesta Retirement Center in Hobbs, N.M., and retired in 1983. In March of 1983 they moved back to Spur to the home she was born in. She lived the rest of her days there. She was a member of Highway 70 Church of Christ, and she loved spending time with her family, crocheting, planting flowers and bird watching.

Those left to cherish her memory are three children, daughters LaDonna Worth from Chase, Kansas, Lorita Thomason (Jay Lyle) from Spur, and son Loyd Jr. (Gilda) from Lubbock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous family members.

Funeral services were held at Zapata Funeral Home Chapel Saturday July 22, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain Robert Roecker officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home. Interment followed at Red Mud Cemetery. Pallbearers were great-grandsons Luke McKay, Daniel McKay, Logan Kirkes, Jaxon Whitehead, Colton Baldridge and Dalton Baldridge. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie White and Tony Ratliff.

In lieu of flowers the family requests consideration of memorials to the New Mexico Children’s Home in Portales, N.M.
