of McAdoo, Texas, went to rest on May 20, 2025, just shy of his 74th birthday. Born on May 23, 1951, in Crosbyton, Texas, he was the beloved son of Wilma and Guinn Hickman.

A proud graduate of McAdoo High School, Class of 1969, Hickman earned his associate’s degree at South Plains College. Dwight was known for his athletic talent, especially on the basketball court, and his enduring loyalty to his hometown. On April 16, 1982, he married the love of his life, Neta Griffin, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter and shared adventures.

Dwight was a man with the biggest heart, someone who instantly connected with everyone he met. He loved children as if they were his own and was a steady, joyful presence in the lives of his many nieces and nephews.

Farming ran deep in Dwight’s blood. Alongside his brother Lane, he proudly carried on the Hickman family’s 125-year farming legacy. Even in difficult times, Dwight remained committed to the land and to his community, traveling south for custom harvesting while continuing to serve his neighbors back home.

He loved the simple pleasures of life: hunting, barbecueing, camping and sharing a good laugh. During hunting season, Dwight could often be found at the deer lease, where he made countless fond memories and collected a treasure trove of stories with his lifelong friends and family.

Dwight is survived by his devoted wife, Neta, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Guinn, and his brother, Lane. Hewillbedeeplymissed and forever remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering dedication, and the love he gave so freely to all. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to causes close to Dwight’s heart: the McAdoo Volunteer Fire Department, the McAdoo Ex-Students Association, or the McAdoo Cemetery.
