Patsy Jean Hyatt was born on August 8, 1932, to Flossie Marie Hawley and Horace Thomas Hyatt in San Angelo, Texas. She spent her childhood in Spur, Texas, surrounded by many relatives. Patsy graduated in 1949 and worked at the Red Front and The Palace movie theatre, and as a telephone operator.

On November 21, 1953, Patsy married Jeff J. Smart, foster son of Lena and V.C. Smart of Spur. The couple moved to Olton, Texas, where Jeff worked as a teacher and coach. During their eight years in Olton, they welcomed two daughters, Jennifer and Cynthia. Eventually, Pat and Jeff settled in Hereford, where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Pat served as a secretary for a lawyer for several years and later worked as a receptionist for Family Medical Clinic for 18 years. She enjoyed working with the public and valued her relationships with her co-workers.

Upon moving to Hereford, Pat, Jeff, and their family joined the Methodist Church. Pat was an active member of the Prayer Shawl group, gathering with fellow ladies to knit shawls and deliver them to those in need. She found joy in visiting Kings Manor during these activities.

Pat cherished her grandchildren, finding delight in caring for them, playing, swimming, and watching their sports activities as they grew. She enjoyed canning vegetables from her garden, making jelly from fruit trees, and sharing her homemade goods. Pat loved cooking and baking from scratch, knitting, making baby blankets, and crocheting. She was also a member of a lively bridge club group.

Pat and Jeff enjoyed traveling with lifelong friends, camping in New Mexico and Colorado, fishing, visiting, and playing games together.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jeff Smart, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage; her brother Bill Hyatt; and her sister Nancy Duvall.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Jennifer Hammer and husband, Gary, of Bowie, Texas, and Cindy Black and husband, Carey, of Hereford, Texas. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kenneth Hammer of Aurora, Colorado; Laci Black Boston and husband, Josh, of South Jordan, Utah; Tanner Black and wife, Blaire, of Hereford; her great-grandchildren, Beatrice and Alicea Hammer, Ethan and Mabry Boston, and Briggs and Bryla Black; her brother, Max Hyatt of Lubbock, Texas; and her sister, Susie Laster of Dickens, Texas.

The family expresses gratitude to the caring caregivers and nurses at Kings Manor, Westgate, Country View Living, and Samaritan Hospice.
