Thelma Wyatt, 87, of Spur, Texas, and Kingsport, Tennessee, died Sunday morning, March, 15, 2020 , after rapid onset of dementia/Alzheimer’s. She was the daughter of Bessie Leedy and Earl Cardwell, both descendants of early Kingsport families; but now, most of Thelma’s generation of Leedys and Cardwells also have vanished from the scene.
Norman Earl Hahn, one of the last “white hat cowboys,” did not die with his boots on, but passed quietly in his own bed on March 4,2020. Elwanda O’Keefe Hahn, his spouse of almost 7o years, was by his side. Norman died where he lived for most of his life, in Jayton, Texas. He was 88.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Peggy Jolene Waddell on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the Community Bible Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Peggy passed away on March 8, 2020, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born in Dickens County to Joe Martin Kidd and Pauline Ann [Turner] Kidd, on August 2o, 1932. She attended school at Dry Lake and Spur High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Reuben Darrell Waddell, on May 6, 1948, in Spur. After his enlistment in the army they made their home in Dickens County to pursue his passion of farming.
Bug Moore passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 7, 2020, at the age of 67. Born October 8,1952, Bug was a Spur graduate class of 1971. He was a lifelong cowboy, welder and fence builder.
SEMINOLE—Funeral services for John Preston Goen, 76, of Seminole were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday Feb. 14, 2020, in the Westside Church of Christ with interment to follow in the Gaines County Cemetery under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole.
Memorial services for Elzie Kimmel were held at the First Baptist Church in Sawyer, Okla., on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Bob O’Neil officiating. Elzie went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2020, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 82.
