Jaybirds defeat Cougars in triple-overtime game for the ages

Week 1 may have been the official Gridiron Classic in Jayton, but the true classic occurred in week 2. The Klondike Cougars came to town to compete in a triple overtime contest with more big plays than one article can cover.

KAY ELLINGTON | THE TEXAS SPUR On Thursday night in Blackwell, the #12-in-the-state Spur Bulldogs ran smack-dab into the #9 Irion County Hornets and got stung, 83-36.

Jaybirds have moments but fall to Tigers in Classic

Last weekend the 19th annual Jayton Gridiron Classic saw 14 of the state’s finest six-man football teams gather for a weekend of intense competition. The Jaybirds hosted the May Tigers, who enter the year with a #3 Division 1 ranking.

CROSS COUNTRY

Spur cross country teams competed in Canyon’s 6-Mile Relay on Saturday. For the varsity boys, Preston Pafford placed 8th with 9:38; Andrew Pafford placed 13th with 10:20; and Brandon Garza placed 21st with12:08.
