Old Settlers Rodeo scheduled for Roaring Springs Aug. 26-28

Things are coming together nicely for this year’s 98th Annual Motley-Dickens Counties’ Old Seltters Reunion and Rodeo, according to Dickens County Judge Kevin Brendle, representing the organizers. “One change to the entry fee structure will make it easier on folks,” said Brendle.

FedEx shipping now available inside Spur Dollar General store

Since the first of August, a new service has been added in Spur’s Dollar General store. Customers may now send and receive FedEx packages there. According to store management, there is a shelf behind the counter for both pickup and dropoff at the register.

Motley-Dickens Old Settlers & Rodeo takes place Aug. 26-28

Roaring Springs will soon be filled with visitors for the 98th Annual Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo. Events take place Thursday, August 26 through Saturday, August 28. An interactive theme park, food trucks and music are all expected to be part of the fun.

Described as “a moving photo album of ranch life in Texas in the mid-1970s,” “Mackintosh and T.J.” was shot in 1975 on various locations throughout West Texas, including the fabled 6666 Ranch, by Emmy-winning director Marvin J. Chomsky (“Roots,” “Holocaust,” “Inside the Third Reich”).

Area teachers head back to school; Jayton students start Aug. 12

School has already started for area teachers and administrators. Much of this week at area schools will be devoted to staff training. However, JGISD classes get under way Thursday, Aug. 12.
