Zarate takes 1st, Spurettes take 3rd in XC meet

The Spur cross-country teams competed at the San Angelo meet last week. The high school boys finished 5th overall, out of 17, teams and finished in first place of all the 1A teams. Jorden Zarate won his 3rd consecutive meet.

FISHING REPORT

Lake Alan Henry Water clear 82–84 degrees; 3.22' low. Largemouth bass are good to excellent on topwater poppers and crankbait. Crappie are slow on minnows and jigs. Catfish are slow on live bait. Lake Colorado City Water stained; 78–85 degrees; 12.66' low.

Spur falls to White Deer in Gridiron Classic

Ranked as high as number three in some state polls, White Deer proved a formidable foe for the Spur Bulldogs Saturday night at the Jayton Gridiron Classic, as the Bucks prevailed 72-28. Spur jumped out to an early lead of 14-0 with 5:15 left in the first quarter.

Jaybirds bulldoze Bulldogs

As a large crowd gathered at Jaybird Stadium on Thursday, August 29 anticipation was in the air. A team that accomplished great feats last year, while returning most of their original starters and gaining more firepower, had the community hopeful to see how Jayton would look in their season opener.

Zarate finishes 1st, Spurettes 3rd at Haskell XC meet

In last week’s cross-country meet in Haskell, the varsity Bulldogs finished 4th as a team. Jorden Zarate finished 1st overall. The varsity Spurettes finished 3rd overall out of 11 teams. The majority took 45 seconds to 1:30 minutes off of their time from last week.

Mustangs muscle past Rangers

The Rangers opened the season facing off against the Wilson Mustangs this past Thursday night. With both teams anticipating a great season, the expectations were high.

Lake Alan Henry Water clear main lake and 84 degrees; lightly stained up the river and 84 degrees; 3.03' low. Black bass are good to excellent on small Bone Whopper Ploppers and Torpedoes. Crappie are slow at night on minnows. Catfish are slow on baited jug lines.

Jayton hosts 16th Annual Gridiron Classic Aug 29-31

Get ready for three of the best days of six-man football you can hope to see. Eighteen teams from across West Texas set up shop this week in Kent County Thursday through Saturday in the 16th Annual Gridiron Classic at Jaybird Stadium.
