We had a fantastic turnout for the first day of our collaborative summer reading program, with around a hundred eager attendees joining us to experience the incredible Zoo to You presentation by Crystal and Ruthie, zookeepers from the Abilene Zoo.

Swimming for slimming: Spur plunges into water aerobics

On a warm, blue-sky Tuesday evening, Spur residents could begin to see the range of options afforded local citizens by having the community swimming pool reopened, as the city’s first water aerobics class accommodated a group of more than 20 women.

Music lineup for 2025 Motley-Dickens Old Settlers announced

Organizers of the 102nd Annual Motley-Dickens Old Settlers Reunion andRodeohaveannounced the event’s musical acts for the event, Aug. 28–30 in Roaring Springs, Texas. Rowdy Decker will be the featured entertainment immediately following the Saturday night rodeo at the event.

‘Zoo to You’ comes to Spur for library summer reading program

Almost 100 people, most of them (but not all!) children, got to learn about exotic animals up close Tuesday morning as representatives of the Abilene Zoo appeared in the “Zoo to You” program at the Dickens County-Spur Library. This event is a part of the library’s 2025 Summer Reading program.
