JGISD board sets 2024-25 budget hearing for Aug. 26, next school board meeting Aug. 15

COMPILED FROM UNAPPROVED MINUTES In a special meeting of the Jayton-Girard Independent School District board of trustees on July 29 the board reviewed and discussed the 2024-2025 budget as presented by Laci Scogin and Scott Bicknell.

LESLI RUSH CLARK Although it was hotter than a blazing fire, it was another great evening for the Tuesday scramble. Thirty people showed up to scramble, and 6 teams were formed.

Dickens Co. 4-H holds last summer day camp

The last of the 4-H summer day camps was held on July 16 at the Dickens County 4-H Center. The participants continued to learn about the Fashion Project and to improve their sewing skills. They made pillowcases with French seams and coordinating bands.

Pavement overlay begins this week on US Highway 82

An $11.3 million ACP (asphaltic concrete pavement) overlay project is set to begin on July 22 on US 82 in Dickens County. The overlay is designed to extend the life of the existing roadway surface. The limits of the project are from just east of the Dickens city limits east to the King County line.

Last opportunity to sign up for July 27 Fat Daddy’s Tournament

Thirty-four participants showed up to scramble in the heat last week, and eight teams were formed. Taking home the 1stplace money for the week was the team of Aubrey Luke, Austin Moreno, Karsen Taylor and Ben Greene, who came in at 6 under par and a score of 30. Way to go, team!

Former Spurette Tatum Walker highlighted by Channel 6 News in Tulsa

FormerSpuretteTatum Walker, a graduate of the class of 2024, was highlighted last weekend by Channel 6 News in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She and her travel team traveled to Tulsa for the Court of Champions Tournament.

10th Annual Fat Daddys golf tourney July 27

LESLI RUSH CLARK Forty-three golfers showed up to participate in the fun last week and nine teams were formed. The weather was perfect, although there was not a breeze to be found!

FISHING REPORT

Week of July 10, 2024 Lake Alan Henry GOOD. Water clear; 83 degrees; 0.21 feet below pool. Anticipate increased recreational boater traffic. With the hot days the best fishing is at night under green lights. Crappie are good in 25-35 feet of water on minnows.
